The Wednesday Club, started in November 1994, was the inspiration of two neighbours in Oxton – Isa Bryce and Betty Douglas. Their idea was to set up a weekly meeting in the winter months for people in the village.
The successful club, now in its 18th year, meets between 2pm – 4pm on Wednesdays from October to April and at the moment has 15 members.
At the club members participate in scrabble, whist, dominoes and carpet bowling, not to mention the laughs and chatting that happens too!. All the activities are for fun – there are no organised competitions. Each member pays £1.50 each time they attend and bring a small raffle prize. The raffle is drawn when everyone stops for tea/coffee and biscuits at the half time break.
In addition to meeting weekly, the club organises a summer trip and meet together for a Christmas meal. Both are funded by the club.
The club is supported by the Wind Farm funds, which pays for the weekly hire of the hall.
Everyone is welcome and the club is open to suggestions for new activities.
